Some hybrids are definitely well-built machines that provide a nice value for their owners. In the case of the Prius, the MPG is so good and the price premium compared to other family sedans is modest, which explains why it sells so well. I almost bought one back in 2004, and I wish that I had. But for the Escalade, I just don't understand why anyone would buy it.

I'm not able to tell if you're arguing for or against hybrids, or simply making a point. If you're arguing against hybrids, they I notice the only factor you've considered in cost. Cost would also be a good argument against buying a sports car, getting a radio, buying winter tires...

Cars more then most items we own are also social statements about our style and values. My brother in law owns a suped up early-model Mustang that he's probably invested $100,000 into, but he's still prepared to tell me that owning my Prius doesn't make sense because of the financial terms you've raised. If buying a car was ONLY about cheapest cost... well, I don't need to finish that thought ;)
